Leaving the anchorage next to the fish farm we passed several small fishing boats, a trawler and a school of dolphins – presumably all attracted by the waters immediately around the farm.

During the day the wind increased to 25 knots and gusting over 30 – easterly and in our favour for once! A trip record top speed of 11.4 knots was registered (that’s fast for us).The anchorage west of the headland at Cabo de Gata was chosen as it has protection from easterlies and our pilot book describes it as ‘sheltered from north and east’. As we entered the bay the wind curled round the hills and hit us with 30 knot gusts from the north! By the time we anchored it was down to 20 knots and at least the sea was fairly sheltered so the waves were small. Once again the new anchor performed well and we had no problems. As the wind decreased later it was a comfortable night for the crew.
