We stayed for nearly 2 weeks in St Petersburg, based on the excellent Krestovski YC. A little noisy perhaps due to local all-night discos but the facilities were excellent, including large screen TV which enable us to watch the World Cup soccer. The marina was only 15 minutes walk from the metro station and then only 3 stops to central St Petersburg on Nevski Prospect.

The YC is situated on the island of Krestovski Ostrov which is a very prosperous area of St P and this was reflected by the clientèle in the local bars and restaurants.

Jenny and Vladimir Ivankiv had organised a comprehensive programme of visits and events that kept us fully occupied for the whole time, with only one free day. Alex and Jamie (both 15) had themselves a ball, as we all did. St P is an incredible city glistening with gold leaf wherever you look. We started with a city bus tour to get our bearings, then a folk show and visits to the Russian Museum, the Hermitage, Peterhof, the Marinski ballet and the Opera for some, numerous cathedrals, the Peter and Paul cathedral, Tsarskoi Selo, the Church of the Spilled Blood, Khronsdadt Seaman's church and Ilya Repin's house on the Gulf of Finland.

Vladimir did and exceptional job with the programming and looked after all our needs. He was always there and was a most attentive guide, going way beyond the call of duty.
