We thought we had passed the biggest waves but they seem to have caught up with us! The wind is coming more from the south so we had - shock -horror- to do a sail change today! Its the 1st time since Mindelo that we have had the pole out on the port side and the main on the starboard. We have a better direction but the wave action corkscrews us around a bit!!!
We have been very surprised and slightly disappointed at the lack of sea life on our journey. The life on the ocean waves that we have been entertained by are:
Flying fish- extremely good at gliding but usually crash land into the waves- or Weohgi - Just last night one landed in the cockpit - Colin went to catch it but it leapt away towards the cockpit hatch of our berth- luckily for Alan and the fish ( Oh how he would have laughed to have a flying fish for a bed companion ) Colin ably captured the poor thing and released it to fly another day!
Shear waters- What fantastic aerobatic pilots - It's just like a David Attenborough film. The glide, stall turns, you name it they do it. It's a wonder to behold such brilliance- even in the moonlight!
Tropic Birds? These swoop around the boat giving us the once over- very pretty mainly white with black wing marking, orange beak, and a fine filigree tail like a lyre bird. Name confirmation would be nice?
There are not many but a few smaller unknown birds that glide around the waves as well.
We nearly had to put a pan pan out as the beer in the fridge had run out! I have not seen the boys work as such a well coordinated team to unpack the front berth to find the last pack of emergency beer under the bed- a joy to behold such enthusiasm for a task and great team building! Beer o'clock will be a happy event tonight- we better get to St Lucia soon - only 5 days of beer left!!
Cheers!
Love and big hugs Avryl Alan Andy and Colin xxxxx
