Oh well after all the preparation it has come to this.  About 4 hours into the trip the alternator on the main engine failed.  The only way we can charge the batteries, and power the nav systems, is by running the generator.  Although this is quite acceptable, it does mean we have no back up, and it is not really sensible to push offshore.  We have altered course for Miri, just West of Brunei.  We have reduced speed to arrive just after sunrise, but will have to anchor and wait about 4 or 5 hours for the tide to come in so we can cross the sand bar that lies across the marina entrance.

We have spoken by sat phone to the Marina manager, and he is going to try and locate an electrician to come and investigate the problem.

We will send an update once we are at Miri, and we have an idea on how long the problem will take to fix.
