Scherzo AZAB 2015

Great progress since yesterday.  All that might change now as we have hit a wind hole that we will suffer from for the next 36 hours.  We  arrived at the target point we set for 12:00 100 minutes early, but the next target is 130 miles noon-noon, which might be/ is optimistic given current speed and prognosis on weather.  That said, we now have a trip record of 179.9 miles to midday today.  Whereas we had stronger winds on the way out, the big seas slowed us down, what we had yesterday was a good wind in relatively small waves - so perfect conditions for speed.  Nice to chalk up a record for Scherzo.

Just been kept company by a pod of huge Risso’s (Grampus) dolphins - rather sedate creatures compared with the bow-wave riding (and relatively small) bottle-nosed type we get in the channel.  Definitely not performance models, these, more of a family saloon.

Were being overhauled by Tamarind - which is rather an irritation - especially as he (Mervyn a Royal Marine single-hander) has been with us at the same distance for 48 hours.  He obviously likes light winds.  Harriet has tweaked and played with the coloured sails  (and swapped the maisail and MPG for our favourite kite, Betty) and we are now holding him…

Baked beans on toast with Collier’s cheddar for lunch.  And a Terry’s Chocolate Orange as a treat for less than 300 miles to go.  Luxury!
