Each day we get closer, which i guess is the purpose of any journey.  Only 95 miles to the NW corner of the island of Sao Miguel - or if we keep this up, about 14 hours, and then another 4 hours to Ponta Delgadu.

Moving fast during the night as the wind strengthened and we made cracking progress with all white sails up with magical squid and other sea creatures gambling and glowing in the phosphorescence of our wake, I’m sure the inspiration of all sorts of mythological characters in another era.

Kitchen skills were stretched to make something out of the vegetables that hadn’t yet crawled out of bilge and made their escape…  Made a Hungarian cassoulet with boat sausage, chick peas, paprika from Harriets’s trip to Budapest and our last aubergine.  When at sea, everything tastes delicious - or perhaps it was the accompanying gnocchi?  Long way from proper cassoulet, but jolly good!

Great to see the sun, and excited to finish the first leg after such an amazingly good sail so far.  Really, nothing difficult since the first night and the broken steering gear!
