Had a lovely two nights in Syracusa. The old town was ancient with narrow streets. There were small street cafes where you could get freshly squeezed lime juice with soda( seemed very popular), granita and coffee. Very cool. And especially as it was such a hot day, the kids had grande granitas. I had a cappuccino, to do what the locals do. Apparently the average cups of coffee consumed per year in Sicily is 600. That adds up to about 2 a day on average! The city was founded by the Greeks over 3000 years ago, became a Roman colony and has been influenced by all other colonizers of Sicily. There were accordion players all over the place, with their favourites being from the soundtrack from the Godfather. We anchored in the bay, avoiding the 90 Euro fee for the marina.
