After the 1st night at sea.

20:30N,  62:58W
0700hrs 22nd April 2009

At 0945 hrs yesterday morning we disentangled ourselves from the Marigot Bay, St Martin, marina and set sail.  A broad reach in 20 knots round the western end of Anguilla was a good start.  The day turned into a close hauled bash with an average of 18 knots across the deck.  Reefed down we slowly got used to the motion.

Night came and with the wind down a bit things were easier.  Then at 0400hrs a heavy rain shower killed all the wind.  Dawn was up before it returned and as I write we are close hauled but with just 14 knots across the deck and full sail.  The forecast keeps changing but it looks as if we will be going to Bermuda.  No great hardship and the sensible thing to do if there is the prospect of  no wind or a headwind going directly to the Azores.  It all depends upon where the high which is forming to the west of Bermuda goes, north east or south east.

So after a rough start moral is reasonably high on the good ship Nordlys.  Our German friends on Noa were just six miles away last night when we spoke.  We are due for another chat session in half an hour.

Happy times to our readers.
