Dear Blog
Another problem with the mainsail yesterday - while
taking in the 3rd reef in force 7 we managed to rip it on the luff. My fault
since my change to the ropes needed to take the 3rd reef tack line back to the
cockpit was not thought out well anough. But I also fear that UV degradation is
starting to set in despite this only being the sail's 3rd season. Anyway Boas
did another fantastic job sitting in the stack pack for 5 hours to mend it and
we scarcely lost time since we needed a 3rd reef anyway
The good news is that at about 0200 hrs this
morning we passed the half way point to St Lucia. Celebrated by changing the SIM
card in the chartplotter (to the Windies one), changing the ARC dodger onto the
port side where we have to have it for the finish and I changing my shorts to my
2nd pair!. And we still have more than 1/2 the wine and beer left so we can
enjoy the home straight!
Currently we are at 17.27N 38.06W so it's starting
to get hot and humid. Wind continues between force 4 to 7 NE to ESE. So we gybe
on the windshifts and are rollocking along at 7.5 knots. Only concern is that we
can expect squalls from now on and concerned that the main will hold out
till we get it to the sailmaker in St Lucia - it is our engine after
all!
