This update is a combination of two days, Day 12 and Day 13.

To look at them next to each other:

Day 12:
We logged 145 nm
Our average speed was 6 knots
We ran the engines for 2 hours to charge the batteries.
Average wind speed was around 18 knots
At 18:00 we had 1198 nm to go.

Day 13:
We logged 177 nm
Our average speed was 7.4 knots
We ran the engines for 3 hours to charge the batteries.
Average wind speed was around 20 knots
At 18:00 we had 1021 nm to go before we make landfall.

Day 12 was definitely a step in the slow direction, but the waves were quite big and rough, so we couldn't hoist the gennaker. Our distance left has been helped by us switching which island we are going to. Instead of going to Hiva Oa, we will now sail to Fatu Hiva first. This saves us 14 nm, so we will get there faster :-)

Day 13 was faster, because we braved the rough conditions and put up the small gennaker. This gave us the extra speed we were looking for.

I'm not quite sure when we will get to Fatu Hiva, but hopefully we will get there within a week. It would be great to get there on the 20th or 21st, but it all depends on the wind, waves and current. For the past couple of days there has been no current pushing us along, so now it's only us. Right now we have 891 nm to go, so the current daily run, should be good.

Today Jacob cooked up an awesome Chili Con Carne, that was followed by the finale of the second round of the African Innovation Trivia Challenge. Each day one of us have been in charge of making the daily trivia, ensuring fairness and a variety of questions. Each trivia-round consist of 5 daily trivias of 10 questions each and the winner of each round is taken out of the dishwashing loop, so that it skips his or her turn (belive me, it might not sound like much of a prize, but it is huge). Each daily Trivia is also worth a number of points: 5 for first place, 3 for second, 2 for third and 1 for fourth. Whomever has the highest number of points after the three rounds we're doing wins the grand prize. After much deliberation we decided that the grand prize is a meal in town for the winner (paid for by the 4 loosers) and one drink each from the 4 loosers at a bar of the winner's choosing. Round 1 was a close affair, where I managed to pull ahead of Topi by one point to claim the round, but Round 2 has been different and I actually won every trivia to claim this round as well. Now all eyes are on the third round, which starts tomorrow, which will decide who gets the free meal and drinks once we get to Marquesas. I might have a small edge with victories from round 1 and 2, but nothing is certain and the grand prize is up for grabs.

Other than that, we are nearing the final preparations for the 17th of May celebrations, but more about that later.
