Saturday 19 June

A full Scottish breakfast at the local café for all the team – excellent

Spent the morning reorganizing the boat and converting back to cruising

Sarah and Nick fly in and we plan to leave at 5pm for an overnight passage to Orkney

The forecast is for the wind to decline overnight – and it does

Sunday 20 June

We arrive at Hoy sound at 8am – and decide not to go in as the viz is poor and its wind over tide

Also the pilot book says don’t do it……..So 2 hrs to wait – and we have a perfect plan B…..the Old Man of Hoy

And then on the way back to Hoy Sound – loads of bird life including comical puffins and beautiful gannets

We arrive in Stromness in the west part of Scarpa Flow……and another full Scottish breakfast

A walk around town on the blue plaque history trail – to the local snipe club

Dick and I take a taxi back to the airport stopping on our way at the Ham snipe club (st marys)….

And the Churchill barrier and Italian chapel…..overlooking the flow – an amazing setting

Results of a survey of snipes at selected northern snipe clubs ………….

            Stavanger         30

            Bergen              20

            Stromness        15

            Ham                 18

Snipes are alive and well in these parts……..Tuesday night seems to be the night ………..Serious sailing …..serious fun
