Tides saw Jammy Dodger leaving Weymouth by 11am, leaving lots of time for a fried breakfast and stroll around the town. The crew were sufficiently curious about the new Marina that we motored into Portland Harbour, doing our best to avoid an international Laser meeting.

On leaving Portland Harbour the crew were bewildered (except the helmsman who had to crow barred off the wheel) to have an upwind leg; the first since leaving Cork over 300 nm ago!! This was short-lived and the crew were much happier when the cruising chute came out on deck at St Albans. A galliant effort to achieve ten knots before the Needles only managed to get to 9.89 knots, however, several yachts were passed at speed during the attempt. On bearing away at Bridge the tide carried us passed Hurst before we dropped sail and motored in Yarmouth. The view of the Queen Victoria leaving Southampton from the Royal Solent finished off a very civilised day.
