GULLIVER OF SOUTHAMPTON 10th December 2008

Gulliver

A frustrating, sweltering day sailing-wise on board Gulliver today, with two gybes, a temperamental Autopilot and huge rolling swell not helping the situation. Had excellent breeze for last 24hrs keeping us steaming along but have to keep a close eye on the instruments at all times and be ready to leap down into the aft cabin and grab the tiller when it inevitably feels like taking a break! Having said that it has been an ideal day for tanning on the 'beach', everybody is looking disgustingly healthy and relaxed. Ed has completed a 24hr run without the GPS and succeeded in estimating our position to within 4 miles of our actual position. We are now within 40 miles of Falbala and there is a suggestion of pirating her for fresh water showers. Pah-who needs fresh water when we have the cleanest, most beautiful sea all around?!
Andrew has finally given up on Atlantic fish, which meant Lis resorted to cooking tonight's supper of Corned Beef Hash with baked beans and freshly baked bread, much to Anna's disgust! (and the boys approval) followed by bananas cooked in spiced Rum. It was accompanied by this evening's screening of Aviator, a mightily long but excellent film, particularly in our version of a Drive-in cinema, which is incredible and surreal.
54 miles to go.

All the best from Mark, Ed, Lis,Andy, Anna and Zoe
