Left Hiva Oa Tuesday for brief stop of tropical paradise (untouched)
Fatu Hiva en route. Left Fatu Hiva last night (Wed night) and now
about 90 miles from it on way to Papeete Tahiti (-about 700 miles more) expect
to arrive 31 May or 1 June.
(swan moves fairly quickly for a sail yacht, averaging about 10 knots
now -broad reach- in force 5-6 (18-26 knots wind), which will be increasing
possibly to 25-30 into force 7 on last day or two before arrival. in 6-10
foot waves right now)
attached picture, Hiva Oa. (that's the swan
in the lagoon). nice place, but even nicer people on Fatu Hiva (because
their happy to see anyone come visit, just about no one there).
a little marquisian girl about 6 or 7 came up to us
last night with mango's in her hand she just picked from jungle that looked like
jurassic park and said in french, 'how much do you think these would
cost'? i said, not sure, are you selling? she said "non, elles
ne sont pas a vendre, mais elles sont vraiment bonnes." (nope, they're not for
sale, but they're very good). then she looked at us for a long time,
smiled and walked off back into the trees.
