We arrived in Las Palmas at 1640 on Tuesday after 11 and a bit days, all smartly attired in our ARC polo shirts, including “its not the kind of thing I wear” Charlotte, who had to be embarrassed into wearing hers by son, Will. We have bonded as a crew, and despite the unusually benign conditions which will of course be modified in the re-telling to grandchildren in years to come, we feel we could tackle anything in our fabulous boat, BETELGEUSE.
It has been a privilege to interact with so much wildlife at close quarters, day after day, which together with the azure blue and crystal clear waters provided a kind of re-assurance in this changing world.
The biggest privilege for me was doing the trip with simply the best crew a skipper could have. Two soldiers, two sailors and two doctors really does work!!

Postscript: thankfully, only the professional skills of the sailors’ were required!!
