Getting ready in Las Palmas

Back home from an exciting few days in Las Palmas and thought I would post a few pics and introduce the crew.  For the ARC Jonnie will again sail with his sister Charlotte, who helped delivered the boat to Gran Canaria, and they have been joined by Charlotte’s son Will and our friends Claire, Pete and Richard. The atmosphere in the marina is fabulous; it is the most extraordinary hive of activity with people swarming over boats, up masts, upside down in lockers and in the water checking hulls.  The pontoons are very busy  - heaving with deliveries of crates of stores, people washing and drying fruit/veg etc and mending bits of kit meaning that getting to your boat is like taking on a frantic slalom. Every evening there are sundowners in the dinghy park and we like to think that we made our mark at the 70’s disco party! We took Betelgeuse out for a quick sail and to anchor in the bay around the corner on Wednesday; the crew went through some drills, Pete and Jonnie commissioned the water maker and Richard and Will went over the side to clean off a few barnacles. It was great to get out, to have a swim and to sniff the Atlantic. I really enjoyed my few days with this fabulous crew and can’t wait to see them all again in St Lucia.
