Santa Marta is a convenient stop, as it has a good marina and lies mid way between Bonaire and Panama. As it lies close to high mountains, it is unusually windy and gusty (50+ knots), especially in the night, covering our boat with dust and sand.

Very friendly atmosphere at the marina allowed us to make some great friends: Ed & Cheryl, Jacques & Sophie, Dan & Melissa, just to name a few. Excellent advice and company! We look forward to meeting them again along our route.

We visited Cartagena (a 5 hr adventurous trip by bus…) and stayed overnight at a nice, small hotel next to the city walls, overlooking the lagoon. Walking along the old city, exploring small bars and restaurants, exceeded our already high expectations. Worth another visit, for sure.

We looked for a break in the wind and managed to leave Colombia on the 16th February, heading to San Blas islands, as we get closer to the Panama Canal.
