This will be out last blog before we leave Greenland. After what has been an experience of a lifetime for all of the crew it looks like we are finally setting sail today. Our cameraman Menno flies home tomorrow and our Producer Marieke the day after. We’ll all be sad to leave the place but with weather looking relatively favorable we will be happy to make our way back to Ireland and our families and loved ones.
We’ve covered a lot of ground in the last few busy months, locals tell us we’ve visited more places than most Greenlanders get to experience in their lifetime. We’ve also met some amazing people along the way, many of which we would now call friends. Safe to say we’ve all formed a strong bond with the country and everyone can’t wait to get back again soon.
Although there isn’t a lot of time to write as we get ready to set-off I guess a big thank you to the people of Greenland in order. The recurring theme has been the open, inviting and down to earth nature of people we have met! The Greenlanders also know how to have a good time, we’ve a laugh along the way. Another theme is the strong connection with their natural environment and the desire to maintain that connection and protect it as they continue into the future.
It’s true and clear from talking to anyone here that the country is adapting to massive changes environmentally, socially and in their drive for independence. Across people from every discipline and background these stare you in the face but there is generally a positive outlook as people look for solutions. A discussion for another time as this country becoming more central on the global stage we’ll continue to watch with great interest.
Finally, a big thank you to our lead sponsor Transitions Optical for their support. Their transitions lenses have had us covered though every type of filming conditions, whether facing sun, ice or fog up here!
We’ll keep posting on this blog as we cross the Atlantic so you can keep tracking our progress as we sail back to Ireland.
