Hello from the mid-Atlantic,

At position 53:44:03N 027:00:68W

We are now some 600 nm from Ireland, with 700+ nm to go until Cape Farewell we’re nearing the halfway point. Not getting the whiskey out just yet! Not the busiest spot out here, a 200m Norwegian cargo ship passed about 2 miles away from us other day but other than that we have some shear waters, fulmars and some distant whales for company.

For the last day we’ve had some very pleasant sailing weather so watches have been pretty relaxed. We may just solve some of the worlds issues in the wheel house, the place to be in this fine weather. The days before that the wind was very up and down, plenty of gust and squals so we’re now getting to be a well oiled reefing machine. Northerly winds are getting a bit chilly so nearly time for the thermal underwear!

We’ve had a few bits to repair after the few days, Ciaran our skipper, mechanic, diver.... maker of wraps has been busy working on the engine and the storm sail.

With Pauline’s barrels of food, we’re keeping ourselves well fed, with meatballs for dinner the other evening, plenty of baked goods and hot chocolate on the go so everyone is in good cheer. Living like lords bastards as Dr Des would say! All of the culinary gifts we received before we left are making all the difference, a myriad of delicious chutneys and sauces and Christmas cake from Caroline Lennon, baked good from Mary and Kim Young, carrot cake from Anne McGowan and roast almond butter from Yvette Monahan. A big thank you from a well fed crew!

Until the next one, over and out!
