A stormy night!

At 0700am (1200 British time) our position is
26:01.46N 71:05.98W. We're going about 5.7 knots with two reefs and only half
the jib rolled out - its about 20 knots and we have had squalls surrounding us
all night. For the first time we had a lot of lightning, beginning just after it
got dark, with lightning flashes all around us! One storm cloud got quite close
so that I could clearly see the jagged line of the lightning, occasionally
looking as if it was reaching to the sea - but we never heard any thunder so it
can't have been that close. The wind still hasn't gone round as forecast but I'm just about to get a new weather forecast so we will see what that says! Looks like we have another stormy day ahead of us. Thank god we pre-cooked three meals as I don't know what we would have done otherwise - both mum & Jilli get seasick if they spend any time downstairs and I am finding it hard enough just standing to heat things up in the galley! I think we would end up with food everywhere if we had to prepare anything. I don't want to sound like we're complaining too much - but this is definitely difficult sailing! |
