The alarm rang at 4am and up we got, managing to leave our berth by 4.45 so that we would have a favourable tide most of the way and especially through the Needles Channel. There was absolutely no wind and the water looked really oily apart from a swell left by the strong winds. After a while the wind increased and we had a lovely sail right into the Solent.
