Better Late Than Never

Sorry we have missed the last two blogs, has been a wee bit busy here on Pi Squared. The last couple of days have been a bit of a roller-coaster. On Wednesday afternoon we were lying on deck, sunbathing and listening to music - 4 hours later we were caught up in a bit of a storm. Having weathered the worst of the storms we dropped all sails and raised the storm jib. An evening of dodging electrical storms on Friday night gave way to heavy swell and stiff breeze in a consistent direction. This morning, a fourth sail change and a day of surfing the waves is improving our averages. New boat speed record of 14.8 kts! The sky cleared yesterday afternoon so all has returned to normal, apart from the occassional squall. The stereo is back on and Fin is no longer clutching the wheel with white knuckles on show and biting his bottom lip for dear life. No casualties except for Jake who hurt his thumb on the bow, he is ok and walking around with his hand bandaged in the thumbs up position.

Lynn, Jonny and Michael had another fresh water shower yesterday as a squall came through, the rinse cycle lasted a little longer than we would have liked and we were getting pretty cold by the time the sun came out. We are thinking of inventing a new spa treatment, "The Squall", you get pelted by ice cold water and slapped on the face with a flying fish or two ...

As the tradewinds carry us through the Tropics towards St Lucia, the temperature continues to rise, especially down below, pretty much like a sauna - didn't help that the heating had been turned on by accident!

We are likely to be arriving into St Lucia a little later than planned, hoping for Thursday but may be later. We have been on the boat for two weeks now, some days it feels like 2 months, but most of the time it feels like 2 days. We have a bit of everything here on Pi Squared, amateur dramatics, domestics, mood swings and unrequited love; all makes for an interesting journey. We have come up with ways to handle these bouts of cabin fever, one of which is to predict mood swings in the same way that we predict breeze, i.e. "Mood swing in 10" would indicates 10 seconds until the next mood swing. You would be amazed at the number of hiding places one can find on Pi Squared with 10 seconds notice! We all have our moments but we are all getting along great and there is a real team spirit. That said, you don't want to be late coming on watch ... not a good idea! We worked out that we will be woken up to go on watch with our 15 minute notice around 80 times during the trip, it doesn't get any easier - coffee intake is steadily increasing!

Love to all from the entire crew. x
