Still raining

The Voyages of Richard and Amanda
Thu 10 Jun 2010 17:21
It has been raining non stop since 2pm last
Tuesday!!! We were going to go out to a restaurant last night but couldn't face
getting soaked so stayed in to have shepherds pie. (tin of mince and onions
topped with instant mash and cooked in the oven - or should it be cottage pie
can't remember) there have been a number of little leaks that have shown
themselves during the downpour but nothing too serious. Once the rain stops and
things dry out then hopefully several applications of Captain Tolley's Creeping
Crack Cure will solve the problem.
We have done hardly anything today except read and
munch cheesy nibbles. Things must be getting bad - Amanda has started her
book-keeping course. By the time we leave she may have finished
it!!
There is apparently a low pressure system sitting
in the Bay of Biscay which is producing all this rotten weather. It is supposed
to be filling and moving at the end of the week so hopefully Saturday will show
some improvements. The pressure has started to rise and now (7.15pm spanish
time) it seems like the rain might be stopping.
We heard from our friends Bill and Dennis who are doing the Jester
Challenge to Newport RI. Dennis has diverted to the Azores to fix some
electrical problems and torn sails, which he has sorted and now is planning to
set off the rest of the way tomorrow. Bill had a very lucky escape - he was
knocked overboard south of the Bishop's Rock lighthouse, fortunately he had his
lifeline on and was able to get back again - but he had a very nasty scare and
has decided to retire. Dennis has had some rotten weather and hearing his story
makes me realise we definately did the right thing by diverting.
Still we are comfortable on board, we still have
books to read, and we are still talking and it isn't cold so it could be
worse.
More tomorrow...
