First Day at Sea - St Martin to Bermuda

21:34.29N 63:36.64W
So just completed our first 24 hours at sea and good to be back out here again, it takes some getting used to again, but we are slowly falling into routine.
Yesterday we left the Marina with the 10:30 lifting bridge. Unlike Las Palmas we had Mark on board here and as a keen racer he was playing all the sneaky racing tactics so at 11:30 as the start horn blue we were tacking down the start line, hard turn to starboard and we were off for the first buoy, the first monohull across the start line and to the first buoy around the west side of St Martin and then northerly past Anguilla and past Dog Island, we were neck and neck all the way with the other Hanse yacht, the Norwegians in a 558, they then edges ahead.
Winds were 18-22 knots on the beam, so we made 8-9 knots through the night, reducing sail a little at sunset. We managed an impressive 190 miles of the 875 to Bermuda so as I speak now we have about 660 miles left to go. Weather forecast app is suggesting 1am Friday which I’m looking forward to as I wanted to arrive in daylight. Just looking at the chart gives me nightmares as it’s surrounded by reefs and rocks with a narrow passage in through the Town Cut to the North. We will see!
Other than that, not much to report we have decided upon 2.5hours single watches which seems to provide adequate sleep and we are just getting into cooking too, things were so bouncy yesterday evening we only managed a sandwich. Nights are long dark at 7pm and light at 6am.
Will update tomorrow shortly after midday local time
