Vestmannaeyjar
I don't why but I have never entered this harbour without wind and rain. Even though we had ended motoring this morning in light airs and sunshine as we made landfall the wind increased and it started raining. Nowhere as wild as previously though. It's a very sheltered harbour but quite a narrow entrance. This is the home of Iceland's largest fishing fleet, so smells great! It is also a volcano and got remodelled in the 70's after an eruption.
Our crossing was mixed. It started a little bumpy but as we sailed further from the coast and over the continental shelf the swell lengthened. We have have had no more that one reef all the way and periods of motoring too. Sadly no whales to see but no ships either.
We will stay here for two nights, do a few minor tweaks to Umiak and then head to Reykjavik. We'll post a few of the phots we have taken tomorrow.
