The bon voyage party at HSH Yachts was great. Lots of friends, colleagues and well wishers turned up. Melos looked great, everyone at HSH Yachts worked hard and Janet and I became exhausted talking with everyone. Thank you all for coming to send us on our way. I had hoped to scan our guest log and add it here but for some reason the copier was not scanning when I tried and then I ran out of time.

Yesterday was our set departure date. We were up early getting everything ready at the house for our friends who are staying there, then our neigbour, Susan, took us down to Melos with our last load of gear as we were leaving our vehicle in the garage. That was at 10:00am and I expected to be ready to leave by noon. The wind was out of the north and it was a good omen for our departure. We eventually left at 1:20pm with neigbours Susan and Charlie and friends Dan and Susan waving us off. We topped up our fuel at Three Amigos and were off.

About half way down the Houston Ship Channel towards Galveston I realized how tired I was and how there were still a number of important items we needed to complete. So, with some reluctance, we agreed we should put in at Galveston and spent the night here at the Yacht Basin. Last night we cleaned the knot log impellor, programmed the Simrad AIS with our MMSI number, programmed the VHF radio with our MMSI number, calibrated the autopilot and worked on the compass light and, not least the head (toilet).

It is now 4:00am. This morning I really want to get the head operational, fix the compass light and then head out, hopefully by mid morning. We’ll see if we make more than 25 miles today!
