We are leaving tomorrow!

Well, the engine is back together and it runs! The water
output is better and it didn’t overheat when we ran it under
load at the dock. But the real test is underway on the
water. The best thing to do would be to take Melos out
tomorrow and motor hard for 5-6 hours to see how the engine
performs. But we are ready to get underway and so we are
going to leave and hope it is fixed. However to be prudent
we are planning on heading north for a day or so to take
advantage of the Gulf Stream and so that we are still able
to put in somewhere if problems continue.

So, we plan to leave tomorrow morning. We have re-
provisioned for the trip to Bermuda and plan to get underway
as soon as we are ready tomorrow. Whether we will have the
time to continue to England is somewhat uncertain even if
the engine behaves. It partly depends on how long it takes
us to get to Bermuda. We are hoping no more than 10 days!

Jeremy

I think I’m ready to go again. It’s been fun in Fort Pierce,
but also a lot of work on the boat, and very hot in the
marina at night when there is no breeze. I’ll see what the
next week brings and how I feel about it. The weather is
predicted to be very light winds which may mean not much
progress. The only weather you can choose is for your
departure. Jeremy got a new pair of foul weather offshore
pants (bibs), which hopefully will help keep him dry, and my
friend Jane, who is doing more skiing than sailing now,
loaned me her flotation suit to keep warm, if we get further
north.
