Crossing the gulf stream

Finally we caught some positive current last night as we sailed into the Gulf stream. At one point we had 3knts of current and 6.5 boat speed so were travelling at 9+knots. However it was short lived as we were heading N and the stream goes NE, so we crossed quickly. In mid stream the water temp was at 30deg as the warm current rushes up from the Gulf of Mexico, shame it has cooled down a fair bit by the time it reaches UK shores.

Anyway despite looking forward to some “free” miles we were glad to be through as the water was very disturbed and we were tossed around quite a bit.

Approx. 100 miles to go, so should be in the US sometime tomorrow morning, although we are currently motoring as the wind has disappeared on us.
