Quivira II is a Falmouth-based Rustler 42 owned from new by Mike and Trish Hornsey who have cruised her extensively, usually two-handed. With nearly 30,000 miles under the keel since she was built in 2006 she's a well-travelled boat including cruises to the Azores in 2007 and 2009, and a three-month cruise in the Caribbean in 2012 preceded by a transatlantic crossing from the Canaries to St Lucia and followed by a return to Falmouth via Bermuda and the Azores. Mike has also completed a fully-crewed circumnavigation of Britain in conjunction with the charity Turn to Starboard. Before owning Quivira II, Mike completed a single-handed passage to the Azores and back in a smaller boat and then again four years later accompanied by his two sons.

Closer to home, Quivira II was the committee boat for each of the Pendennis Cup superyacht regattas in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 during which he became acquainted with his AZAB co-skipper, Neil Andrew, who was race officer. A former Sailing Secretary of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, Neil has been closely involved in organising three editions of AZAB and felt that 2019 was time to have a go himself. He is an accomplished sailor with more that 55 years experience in dinghies, keelboats and offshore yachts, and has competed with distinction in National, European and World championships. Whilst new to long-distance, short-handed ocean passages he is no stranger to Biscay having completed numerous voyages in warships during his career as a naval scientist. He is delighted to be accompanying such an experienced sailor as Mike.
