Day 16: Suzanna and the cr*p on deck

There has been the odd mention of Suzanna - well, here she is, together with her friends, the mint, coriander and basil. Unfortunately, she hasn’t got on with the coriander nor, lately, the basil, so they had to be moved around. The ‘erbs have generally done well, thanks to regular dressings of fresh coffee grounds. Having fresh herbs with our meals - not least the basil on Sven’s excellent spicy tomato soup. Yum yum!

Now you may have noticed, in some of the above deck pix, that there are sections of the deck that regularly do not see the light of day. Capacious though Cherish may be, the stuff we need to take does not all fit below decks. So here’s what’s above decks (apart from the occasional people and poorly piloted flying fish): the spinnaker (when not flying); a spare Yankee foresail (not yet used); a boat hook; two 12 litre and one 7 litre dive cylinders; 20 litres of emergency drinking water; 20 litres of petrol for the generator; 40 litres emergency reserve of diesel for the engine; a fishing rod; a gaff for the big fish we haven’t caught yet; a spare bucket; Suzuki outboard; fenders; dan buoy (for man over board; horseshoe buoy, drogue  and light; 8 man emergency liferaft; on the foredeck: the back up portable generator and the foldable rib. You don’t have time for me to tell you why we need it all…….
