We spent a week at the idyllic Amyot Bay on the atoll Toau in the Toumatu Archipelago. Valentine and Gaston are the two permanent residents at Amyot. When we first arrived, there were people staying at the pension run by Valentine and her sister. Some of her sister's family were there to help, causing an increase in the population, but they all left a couple of days after we arrived. In Nuku Hiva, we had made friends with a young American sailor, Joel Kellogg, who had sailed his yacht "Balena" singlehanded from San Fransisco. He arrived the day after us and the two boats that were there when we sailed in also left, making for a very quiet spot. Valentine promised to cook for us and it was shaping up to be a lovely time with just the five of us. As it turned out, two charter boats called to say they were arriving and the quiet dinner for five turned into a lively night with a crowd of nineteen.
