Monday : refueled at Papeete. The excise form really worked and we only paid 101 CPF about 1.25 AUD Local retail is around 150-160 CPF.
A nice reach took us to Moorea by mid afternoon. Moorea is a volcanic island with a fringing reef and a lagoon area between the reef and the island. Tuesday morning we dinghied west in the lagoon to a site near the Intercontinental Hotel where a large number of stingrays were congregated on a sand bank just over a metre deep. An amazing spectacle unfolded as stingrays swarmed all around the dinghy. With some apprehension we entered the water being careful not to stand on a ray (remembering Steve Irwin) The stingrays were everywhere: between our legs, up beside our faces, crawling up our backs etc. Having the odd morsel of food with us sent them completely crazy: Can't believe we did this .. Photos later.
Wednesday: preparing for an overnight sail to Hauhine so as to arrive with the sun overhead..helps reef spotting
