Friday 17th July

We've had a lovely relaxed couple of days at Pulau Tinggi, relaxing and enjoying the lovely water. The small island we anchored by had warm, crystal clear water lapping the small white sandy beach and rugged grey rocks the girls enjoyed playing on. The snorkelling was fairly average with recovering reef, well populated with black sea cucumbers waving their feelers in the current and masses of sea urchins, always the first to inhabit an area.

A night at Pulau Sibu, a steep rocky island divided by long sandy beaches, was rather frustrating. With humidity of 80% and over 30 degrees, it is always lovely to swim but the currents had brought with them masses of red jellyfish. Normally I am not fussed by them, but these had long tentacles streaming from their small, sucking bodies. We weren't prepared to risk the consequences of the possible incredible pain! A play on the beach around the dark rocks kept everyone happy.

Our arrival in Singapore today was quite mind blowing! We have never seen so many ships, most anchored ready to fill up or deposit their loads. Coming from all over the world, many were met off the island of Singapore to unload, via other smaller ships, or headed up the Johor Straits towards huge ship facilities. The skyline of Singapore, a little shrouded in smog, was very impressive with rows of skyscrapers, a Ferris wheel and what appeared to a huge rooftop garden. After clearing in with immigration, via a boat pulling up next to us near The Sisters, we proceed to our marina. We passed enormous ships being loaded in equally huge container docks. Lined up under loading gantries, their containers seven rows tall, sunk the ships lower into the water to their plimsoll line with their weight. The marina, although a little sloppy with the waves of the constant traffic going out to the ships and oil rigs nearby, has good facilities and isn't too far from the city.
