Our last few days in Fiji were spent in luxury at the First Landing resort, which is right next to Vuda Point marina where we left the boat for a couple of days while we indulged. Mum very kindly arranged for us to have 2 nights off the boat in a beachside bure at the resort. We drank cocktails, had full body massages, spent hours in the spa bath and ate some really good food. The weather still wasn't great, but we were there to chill out so it didn't really matter. It was so nice to sleep in a giant bed that didn't have a noisy water tank underneath it! It was a real treat - thanks again Mum!

We took a taxi into Lautoka to try and check out with customs and immigration. However, I had misread something and we couldn't do it without the boat actually being in Lautoka. So we had a bit of a wasted trip except for going to the supermarket (without any money so Mum had to bail us out!). The town was quite busy, but very industrial and dirty, with terrible roads. It is a major port for the exportation of sugar cane and woodchips - so the activity is centered around the port meaning that it comes across as a bit of a dirty city. On Friday a sign went up in the resort saying that the Fijian Police marching band would be coming to the resort and putting on a bit of a show. Close to 20 people walked through the resort playing the standard kind of marching music, but when they hit the beach they losened up a bit and started dancing around and it turned into the macarena! There were also two "entertainers" who wore sequin clad trousers and who were shaking their hips and doing the macarena dance! It was so funny to watch, and also completely bizarre to think that this is what constituted their police force! The crowd loved it, never mind how completely random it was!

On Saturday we said goodbye to Mum as she headed off for her massage. It's always hard to say goodbye but this time it's only 2 months until we'll be home for good!
