Still no sign of other boats.
However, they are out there, which motivated the crew to deliver a record daily
mileage for the boat of 218 miles. This was a great achievement for a 20 year
old vessel. The feat also placed us as 13th fastest in the entire
fleet 253 for that 24 hour period. This is also pleasing, as most of the boats
ahead of us are true ‘super yachts’ which give us time under the handicap
system. Ignoring handicaps we are currently 6th in our group and
30th in the entire fleet. We also passed the ‘1000 miles to go point
today, celebrating with a drink.
News of other boats is always
interesting, notably:
Boat 123 ‘Y Not’ which has lost its
rudder and can only steer to 310 degrees
Boat 248 ‘Compromise’ whose skipper
as had a breakdown. The two remaining crew issued a mayday, fearing for their
safety
Boat 189 ‘Numki’ hit a whale,
suffering some damage which they have been able to repair
Life’s not so bad aboard
