After a 1.5 days uneventful passage to Papeete, Tahiti, we picked up our
friends, Kasia and Marinario, at Tahiti Nui Airport on September 16.
We had a wonderful time together in Tahiti. Anchored in Outumaoro Bay, we
did a lot of swimming and snorkeling. Dinners, mostly aboard "Sweet
Weather", last for hours as we talk to no end. We went out for a dinner and
concert a couple of times and did a very entertaining guided tour to the
interior of Tahiti Nui. A beautiful scenery is the most abused expression in
this diary but, of course, they were exclusively such there. Our four wheel
drive Land Rover made it through very rough dirt roads only due to the
skills of our Tahitian guide/driver. The tour included swimming in pools
under picturesque waterfalls and lunch served in a restaurant overlooking a
precipitous slope into a deep valley. The guide was very knowledgeable,
friendly and spoke a good English. The tour was rather expensive but worth
every penny of it.
Then, we spend a couple of windy days in Baie Vaiare, Moorea and today we
motored through a calm sea to Baie de Cook, renown (as everybody could
guess) for its dramatic beautiful views. Somebody with a talent has surely
described it already. We just have to find the text, which I certainly
shall. Kasia took hundreds of pictures which, I hope, will stimulate our
memories in the future. Needless to say, all the socializing and sightseeing
is rather absorbing and I have literally make time for my asthma management
program, all to a great neglect of the web diary and e-mail. Well, I hope I
will catch up later, during the passage to Tonga. I did spend an hour at an
expensive but rather dumb computer terminal in Sofitel Hotel in Maeva Beach,
right by our anchorage. I could not get to MailaSail and most of Yahoo
e-mail buttons did not respond at all, so it was very inefficient.
