Fai Tira has a rough time crossing the Gulf of Corinth. 38:22.12N 22:04.61E

03rd – 04th  July 2011

We woke up at 6am yet again for an early start.  The wind was light and we extracted ourselves from the very tight mooring we had spent the night in.  As we headed west along the Gulf of Corinth we were heading for the village of Galaxidhi about 35nm away.  As we progressed the wind increased and the waves got bigger.  We were being bashed all over the place.  At times we were only doing 2 knots over the ground.  All this and we have a oil leak on the engine.

Our safe haven for the night.

We pushed on for as long as we could but I noticed that Jude was getting a little apprehensive so I decided to divert and head for a sheltered bay about six miles to the north.  This was going to take us one and a half hours to get to but it was a lot better than pushing onto our original destination four hours away.

We anchored in very windy conditions but the anchor took and we were safe and fairly comfortable.  Overnight the wind subsided and we set off early again and found ourselves in front of a gaggle of boats, leaving safe havens, all seeming to be heading to Trizonia.  One of these boats was Island Kea, from the Rally, with Steve and Katrin on board.

Another windy 30 miles on the nose journey and we arrived at this fabulous little island of Trizonia.

Judy happy to be next to a quay.

We chilled for a bit and took our swimmers and headed for the beach.  The bay just yards way from where we were moored was idyllic, with a few tavernas, a lovely church and completely sheltered from the wind.  We went swimming and enjoyed a relaxing time on our own little beach with our rather up market umbrella.

View from the church graveyard and our own little beach.

Steve and Katrin had some guests on board, Paul and Diana, and they organized for us to meet up for drinks at 6.30pm and to eat at 7.00pm, which turned out to be 8.00pm after we had sampled a couple of ouzos.  The meal was OK but the company was great.  We enjoyed the first of the BWR reunions!!!
