Fai Tira still in Vigo 42:13.36N 8:45.02W

 

Today is a whole month since we had that fantastic send off from Dartmouth.  A lot of things have happened in that time and we have had some adventures.  Of course Biscay was the biggest challenge to us both.  You may remember that our rig broke just as we were approaching the Spanish coast in a force 9 gale.  We are still in Vigo trying to get it fixed.

The Blog continues.

 

Today we were yet again woken by Alfrado and Albertro we shot up and they were stood there with the solution to our rig problem.  They had adapted a T piece that fits into the mast so it connected to our existing fittings.  Alberto went up the mast while Alfrado, John and myself lifted the stay into place.

A lot of scratching of heads went on as we battled to wonder why the stay was an inch to long now.  Bugger!!!  We dismantled part of the furling gear to reveal a hidden bottle screw, problem solved.  All the work was completed by midday and we thanked the guys for a brilliant job done and arranged to meet them at their workshop  at 1pm to pay the bill.

Their workshop was fantastic a mixture of old and new.

There were fantastic wooden boats being worked on.  We were shown a 16 metre racing boat that was nearing completion of a full restoration.  It was beautiful.  Alberto was working on a CAD package designing a boat hull.  He told us he had been looking at our blog and would be following our progress with interest. We paid them and again thanked them for doing such an excellent job and said our goodbyes.

 

A quick look around the old part of this Vigo suburb bought some provisions and I managed to explain to the Butcheress that I would like rump steak by doing an impression of a bull and then pointed at my bum.  She got the idea and ended up with a rump steak for dinner. We were back to Fai Tia to chill out for the afternoon.
