We have been waiting here for Monday morning to arrive so that we could get a rigger to look at our broken mast stay.

                        Broken Stay

We rang the recommended company but they said they had no one available.  A quick phone call back to Barry Hollis in Dartmouth confirmed the rig was OK to sail without the stay.  He also told us the name of an old friend who lived in Baiona who was also a rigger.  So we will wait until we get there to arrange repairs.

So today we decided to do some of the outstanding repairs.  John took Angela to bits (the auto helm) and I repaired the guard rail.  With both jobs complete it was just the Genoa to repair.  We stuck lots of sticky repair tape on the worn bits and John then did a great job of sewing a patch on.  (A stitch in time saves something or other).  Unfortunately we didn’t take any photos of our ace seamstress at work. We then hoisted the sail back up the forestay and decided to go into town and do some shopping and possibly have a beer.

The town was very quiet compared with the weekend, but slowly started to throng when people left work.  The scene was very cosmopolitan with folks scurrying around in there finest work clothes and then calling into the local bar for that “after work drink”.  Of   course we had to join them.

See if you can spot us?                                                                    There we are! 2 of us!!                                                                    Gunning for it.

We headed back to Fai Tira and had an ice cream on the way.  John cooked the evening meal whilst I bagged up the bikes.  The food John prepared was “staggeringly delicious” as he kept telling me as I ate my Baked Beans with integral sausages.  I am thinking of becoming a vegetarian.

Off further south tomorrow so early night

Bye for now.

Pete and John.
