Thought for the day :  You don't want to get into a wrestling match with a pig.  You both get dirty - but the pig likes it.  ( US politician Al Gore was credited with that one I think).

Having had a wonderful sail southwards Mon/Tues night, we ran out of wind again!  Only 12 hours after being hove-to in a gale.  We motored all yesterday afternoon and through the night to get through yet another calm patch.   The daily average speed above includes nearly 17 hours of motoring in calm conditions!  We passed about 50' north of cape Verde islands and now heading more westwards at last.

Last night the phosphorescence in the water was quite amazing.  The leading edge of the bow wave is lit up all the way along and right down the length of the boat.  It even lights up the side of the boat.  You can also see it in the trail behind the boat deep underwater and sometimes you can see little bursts of light from below the surface, looking like mini depth charges exploding as the water is disturbed by 'Catou'.

Not a lot to report. We are really hoping for some Trade winds to find us today. We stopped the engine at 0730 and have been averaging 2.5 knots ever since!  We don't have enough fuel to motor all the way, and we have to reserve some for battery charging!

Best wishes
