Blog nr. 8 from California Blue - Hard Core Sailing  3/12-07

Hello Everyone,

After another fast night with the Parasailor with boat speeds between 9-10 knots it was time to retire this sail for awhile as we change our heading more to the south west on course 245 degrees and require our mainsail and genoa for this tack based on current wind direction. So early this morning we took down the Parasailor and were quickly underway.

The weather today has been very unstable with a fair bit of rain and squalls as we sailed further south west today. We had wind speeds of up to 20 knots and boats speeds up to 10 knots sailing close hauled. Needless to say it was a wet day from the sea and the rain. After 5 easy days down wind sailing we were hard core sailing for the first time in a week. Whooopee!

At the time of this writing we have covered almost 1400 nautical miles and have essentially reached the half way mark with about 1300 or so miles left to St. Lucia. I have it from a reliable source that we are now officially in the tropics. Guess I better make sure the champagne is cold.

We have swapped out our lure in the hopes of catching the big one today. Keep your fingers crossed.

The boys have been occupying themselves with reading and just hanging out.

Lots of new pictures attached. Including some of our pizza dinner and our jury rigged starboard nav light mark II.

I am handing over to Spencer now for some insight:

As this blog is not as meaty as the cap'n tends to make it I am here to make yet another entry into blog country. We're half way there and everything is just goodly, despite the extreme heeling over ''overwhelming my toilet and having toilet water splash back over onto the bathroom floor. There is officially no fresh fruit left so we're know moving on to the almost as good canned section. Today was pretty mellow, and we experienced our first true extended squall which is always fun so a portion of the day was spent hiding down below. Nothing else too riveting going on at the moment so I am handing over to Marco now for some insight. Ta ta for now, Spencah.

I'm off to help Vic with the chicken curry dinner :)

Hope to have so more excitement and action to share tomorrow.

Take care,

Mark and the crew of California Blue
