Blog nr. 9 from California Blue - Cargo ships, squalls and
frustrations with the wind 4/12-07
Hello Everyone,
Spencer and Elliott have ''volunteered'' to do the blog today so I am going
to let them share with you the latest news and excitement onboard California
Blue.
Enter Spencer:
Well I would dub it neither excitement nor news, but everything is going well
onboard our lovely vessel that is Cali Blue. I have no real recollection of
where the Captain (as he now demands to be addressed) left of yesterday but I
believe it was before we had dinner. The curry was chock full of flavor and
spices and solved our longing crisis of empty-bellyness. After dinner it
was basically time for night watch as Jayson, Elliott, and myself got ready for
the first watch. This watch featured almost getting run down by a cargo ship and
a suicidal flying fish who propelled itself against one of our domes and landed
on the deck, but then flopped back into the ocean after a little while. Other
than that our watch was the same as usual, darkness, coffee/hot chocolate, and
lots of man talk.
During Vic and Dad's watch they got hit by what was apparently our nastiest
squall to date. While the wind wasn't the most co-operative today at least
the sun came out to play and as a result the day featured some quite
intense tanning sessions. We're still flying the Genoa as the wind isn't going
in the ideal Parasailor direction for our destination of St. Lucia so we don't
have the same soaring speed we once did but we're still a bunch of happy
campers/sailors none the less.
No more luck on the fishing side of things as they seem to be intimidated by
our ever so masculine and imposing fishing rod. One of the captain's more
inspiring quotes which was spoken only moments ago was ''It's a damn good thing
we're not fishermen.''
The meal tonight will feature some frozen lasagna (which will
hopefully not be frozen at the time of our meal) accompanied by some tasty
garlic bread ala Jaysonito. Personally, I'm more than excited for it and it
should be ready for consumption in some fifteen minutes from
now.
While I haven't given you any co-ordinates or fancy shmancy sail talk, I feel
this blog is decent enough, although very few can be compared to the
sheerly epic and legendary status of Cap'n Marks blogs. Elliott contributed
minimally towards this blog and has now been fired from blog detail.
That's all for now,
Spencer and the crew from California Blue
