29th June
IOW
We arrived early evening in the Medina after yet another Solent incident. Between Newtown and Cowes we were sailing nicely with winds gusting low thirties and 8 knots on the clock. On our starboard side i saw a catamaran fast approaching. " We have right of way" i thought so no need to hold off. This was obviously not the catamarans plan as he continued on the same course. At the last minute i beared off and gybed to avoid a colision. He merrrily saied past our stern completely oblivious to our presence. A few expletives were shot across his deck!  Oh well thats the Solent for you?
As we entered the Medina river Dave looked up from the Radio " Yacht marina full, shepherds wharf full and East cowes want to charge for two nights minimum. The "Round the Island Race" is on tomorrow"
The penny dropped as i viewed all the racing yachts rafted up including Pams 60 foot Clipper training boat that she lived on before her round the world trip.
So we went into East Cowes and caught the ferry to Cowes for a couple of beers. As you can imagine with 1500 boats and crew the place was heaving.
I look forward to seeing the finish tomorrow
regards
