Martinique, here we are! - December 6^th

It’s 14:30 local time and we are entering the bay of Le Marin in Martinique. Our transat officially reached its destination!

Big thanks to everyone on our team for being such an important part of this adventure:

• Francesco Magliano, the captain: for the flawless preparation of Southern Star over the past summer and fall; and for having welcomed with grace and a positive attitude all of the crew members
• Jesper Radich, the tactician: for his unwavering commitment to transforming all of us into presentable sailors. Also, for his relentless enthusiasm for numbers and data when it came to assessing weather patterns and navigation options
• Nic Cranch, the bowman: for lending his sailing and ocean-crossing experience to all of us, and for acting as a teacher and a scholar in the art of sailing
• Vincenzo Morbiducci, the first mate: for sponging up every little trick from Nic and for keeping a very positive and proactive attitude in every situation, even when the task at hands was definitely unpleasant
• Vaifra Melchiorri, the chef: for continuing to work under strenuous sailing conditions and sea states to feed us with an ever changing menu - never the same meal twice!
• Mamo Colarieti, the physicist: a professorial sailor who finally had the opportunity to complement his vast theoretical knowledge with some real sailing
• Beau Epperly, the sailing novice: for embracing the challenge with a fantastic attitude, learning the ropes on this trip, and showing promising talent. We will always be indebted to him for having doubled as a personal trainer on the boat during the crossing
• Gianluca Puzzello, the media manager: for being the antidepressant of this transat, the moral booster, and the ”bullshit” factor that is needed in every quest. To quote him while in the middle of a squall: “It’s very wet out here, but not the wet I like”
• Olimpia Papini, Southern Star’s stewardess: for helping us prepare and rehearse the trip in our transfer from Malaga to Lanzarote, where she served as our chef
• Jolbert Van Dijk, our weather man: for supporting us with weather reports and routing advice both during the feeder trip to Lanzarote and the transat

Sono le 14.30 ora locale e stiamo entrando nella baia di Le Marin in Martinica. La nostra transat è ufficialmente giunta a destinazione!

Molte grazie a tutti i membri del nostro team per essere stati una parte così importante in questa avventura:

• - Francesco Magliano, il capitano: per l'impeccabile preparazione della Southern Star durante la scorsa estate e autunno, e per aver accolto con garbo e positività tutti i membri dell'equipaggio
• -Jesper Radich, il tattico: per il suo incrollabile impegno nel trasformare tutti noi in presentabili marinai. Inoltre, per il suo incessante entusiasmo per i numeri e i dati quando si trattava di valutare i modelli meteorologici e le opzioni di navigazione
• Nic Cranch, il prodiere: per aver messo a diposizione di tutti noi la sua vasta conoscenza di vela e di traversata oceanica, agendo come insegnante e studioso nell'arte della vela
• Vincenzo Morbiducci, il primo ufficiale: per aver “rubato” ogni piccolo trucchetto di Nic e per aver mantenuto un atteggiamento molto positivo e proattivo in ogni situazione, anche quando il compito da svolgere era decisamente spiacevole
• Vaifra Melchiorri, lo chef: per essere riuscita a lavorare in qualsiasi condizione di navigazione e di mare e per averci nutrito con un menù sempre diverso: mai due volte lo stesso pasto!
• Mamo Colarieti, il fisico: un marinaio professore che finalmente ha avuto l'opportunità di integrare la sua vasta conoscenza teorica con vela e navigazione oceanica
• Beau Epperly, un principiante della vela che ha accettato la sfida con un atteggiamento fantastico, imparando i fondamenti di questo viaggio e mostrando un talento davvero promettente. Gli saremo sempre debitori per aver svolto anche il ruolo di personal trainer in barca durante la traversata
• Gianluca Puzzello, il responsabile dei media: Per essere stato l'antidepressivo di questa traversata, il booster del morale, lo sparacazzate che è necessario in ogni missione. Per citarlo nel bel mezzo di una burrasca: “Qui fuori è molto bagnato, ma non è il bagnato che mi piace”
• Olimpia Papini, hostess di Southern Star: per averci aiutato a preparare e provare il viaggio nel nostro trasferimento da Malaga a Lanzarote, dove è stata la nostra chef
• Jolbert Van Dijk, il nostro meteorologo: per averci supportato con bollettini meteorologici e consigli sul percorso sia durante il viaggio di collegamento a Lanzarote che durante la transat
