The winds still turn fickle with a frustrating regularity. Both
yesterday and today, the winds in the morning have been light and variable and
efforts have to be geared towards reducing the amount the sails flog in what is
sometimes a 4 to 5 metre swell. It makes for a lovely rollercoaster ride
when there’s wind and frustration when there isn’t. Whilst this is a rally
not a race, we are keen to keep a respectable place within the fleet and after
the setback at the start with the steering failure which cost us several
hours, we doo seem to have made good pace with regard to the rest of the
fleet. We think we saw the only other Oyster 53 cross our stern several
miles away earlier today. (Arethusa which was 50 miles ahead at one
stage).
During the morning we found a flying fish on our deck and just before lunch
we caught another mahi mahi. So to sum up the fish situation so far this
passage, we have captured 2, a further 2 have escaped from the line and one (the
flying fish) just surrendered without a fight.
This message is slightly later than normal and our future blogs may not be
as timely as we would like. as we’ve had an inverter problem so can only operate
email and other mains powered devices when we have the generator running.
Its not a problem for us though. We’ve almost logged 1,000 miles and are
about a third of the distance across. We’ve also just changed our clocks
again so are currently 2 hours later than UK time
