We left Volcano at 6AM in the dark with lightening flashing away in the distance, quite dramatic. The passage back to the mainland started with no wind and motoring, to wind, rain, thunder and lightening, and then finally 20 gusting 25 knots on the nose coming in to Cefalu and a big sea. Anyway we made it OK and were very glad to drop the anchor in the safe and very pretty harbour.
Cefalu was a lovely touristy town, but for Italian tourists, not British or German, so still very authentic Sicilian. We really liked it and stayed two nights before moving on to Palermo.
It was here that our outboard really started to pack up, and I lost my patience with it, so we started looking for a good second hand one to buy. We called the local outboard firm who came down to show me some that weren’t what we were after, but they were really nice and helpful. They phoned around their contacts and found exactly what we were looking for in Palermo, our next stop.
