After waiting for a week in Paros finally there was a break in wind and we were able to leave and cross to Sifnos.
The past 10 days of northerly winds had built up a huge swell and this was one of our roughest sails, with the boat being tossed about as if it was a dinghy. Even though we had F3-4 wind we could have done with more to keep the boat powering through the waves. After an uncomfortable 4 hours we made it to Sifnos and into the shelter of the lee of the Island. Moored stern to the town quay in Kamares, but only stayed one night as it wasn't a great harbour and we were too close to the ferry dock which was very busy.
The next day we sailed south to Vathy, which is a beautiful natural harbour with a lovely palm fringed beach all the way around and a tiny village tucked in to the north corner. It was absolutely lovely and reminded me a lot of the Caribbean. I think we would have stayed longer but the forecast was for the Meltimi winds to build again, so we had to push onto Milos to avoid getting stuck for another week.
