As we exited the straights of Messina we motored past the swordfish fishing boats which are a real sight. They motor about with the guys at the top of the mast driving and looking for the swordfish resting in the water. If they see one they point the long bowsprit towards the fish and a guy runs out to the end and spears the fish before it knows what’s going on and can swim off. Quite a spectacle.

Sailed round to Milazzo on the north coast of Sicily, but didn’t go ashore. Swam from the boat and spent a nice night at anchor.
