We where if with a bumpy start. We left Antigua 0740 May 7th.
We started of a main sail and staysail and away Sandy Island we got a taste of what
confused seas are. As the water opened up between Antigua and Barbuda the
Atlantic swell came from the northeast and the Caribbean aSea from the south
east creating an unpleasant movement. We realized we were overpowered with the
main and took it down and we continued with the staysail. This created a much
more pleasant movement and allowed the autopilot to keep course even though the
sea was not very comfortable. We were both feeling the motion from the ocean
and therefore food was out of question J.
The night both of us spent in the cockpit taking 2 hours shift while the other
one was sleeping. Morning called for scattered showers and increasing wind of
aprox. 25 kn. out of ESE. Early morning we took down the staysail and took out
the Genoa. This improved stability and speed and together with a more stable
swell Morning Song is more stable making her way towards Bermuda. Yesterday we
sighted a sailboat and today a big ass tanker. We have also spotted seagulls,
fly fish and a cap that was pink. For breakfast/lunch we had a sandwich and a cup of noodles
since fishing yet hasn’t cross our minds. Maximum wave height is aprox. 6m. When we tried to start the
cooling water pump for the refrigerator nothing happened. Stig, we should have
changed the fan belt while we were at it! But on top of all this we are with
good spirit and have shared some great laughs. We are about to download new
weather forecasts for the coming 24 h. Finally we would like to thank
Paula and Richard one more time for their hospitality, friendliness and warmth.
Sorry we haven’t tasted your stew yet! ;) |
