You would think that going out to dinner every
night meeting some very interesting people all from a very varied
background, culture and countries would be ideal. In many respects it is a great
and valued opportunity and it is but it just doesn't compare with the
comradeship that you gain at sea in the company of those same
people.
We are all travellers on an adventure that many
people do not get to experience in their lifetimes, we are lucky not only do we
get that experience but we get to share it day by day with others of a like
mind. Some of the group enjoy the arriving at new locations most of all others
like the thrill of the journey even though life on board can become a little
tedious when the major decision of the day is what to have for dinner. The
biggest imponderable is of course the weather which at the moment is not helping
us by being very light and variable in direction,so its engine on and watch the
fuel levels.
We have about 2800nm to go about 22/24 days
sailing, just think of seeing nothing but sea for 20 days and gradually a speck
of land appears on the horizon which may take you 20+ hours to reach.Almost
forgotten in the excitement of a landfall is the marvellous sunsets and sun
rises. The thrill of nearly landing a Dorado which had taken us 40 minutes
to bring alongside by playing it and slowly wearing it down.To appreciate
the brilliant colours that it displayed as we were trying to secure it with a
gaff hook.It was almost a crime to land it and then we were saved from
committing that dreadful crime as it broke free and swam away.I don't know who
more pleased us or the fish, mind you we got a photo of the one that got
away.
All this and we are only 14 hrs into our
journey.
Tomorrow I will tell you about our daily life on
board, the chores ,highs and lows and the crew.
